What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château actuel du 16e siècle (bâti de 1550 à 1553) , succédant à une maison-forte du 12e siècle. Durant la Révolution, destruction du châtelet, de sculptures et d'armoiries. En 1817, importants travaux de démolition dus à l'incendie de 1794 qui détruisit les trois quart du château. En 1903, les douves sont restaurées, les dépendances situées au nord du château sont réaménagées. Une orangerie est bâtie à proximité, avec un système de chauffage encore en place. En 1918, Harry Truman, futur président des Etats-Unis, y séjourne plusieurs mois. Au cours de la Seconde guerre mondiale, le château est occupé par les Allemands.
