To make a day of it

Château d'Ultrera stands in Argelès-sur-Mer (Pyrénées-Orientales), in the Occitanie region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The ruined château d'Ultrera stands on a rocky spur of the Albères massif, in the commune of Argelès-sur-Mer, at an altitude of 571 metres. Occupied since Visigothic times and first recorded in 673, it long kept watch over the natural passage between Roussillon and Catalonia. Visitors come today for the remains of the fortress and its former Romanesque chapel, as well as for the view over the Roussillon plain. The site also draws climbers, since the rock face is equipped with numerous climbing routes.
