To make a day of it
Château d'Étobon stands in Étobon (Haute-Saône), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
On the hill overlooking the village of Étobon, in the Haute-Saône region, only scattered traces remain of a medieval stronghold. First recorded in 1256 as a fortified settlement housing some fifty families, it passed through the hands of the Dukes of Burgundy and later the Counts of Montbéliard. Burned down in 1519 and never rebuilt, it was gradually stripped of its stones by villagers over the following centuries. Visitors come here less for standing ruins than for the view and the memory of a vanished seat of power.
