The motte de Juhègues is what remains of a medieval fortification built on an artificial earthen mound, in Torreilles in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. This is not a castle in the usual sense but an archaeological site: a castle mound roughly fifty metres long, of which only the north-western part survives today. Excavations carried out in the mid-20th century uncovered fragments of pottery and Roman roof tiles, evidence of earlier occupation of the site. Visitors come here to understand a type of earthwork fortification typical of Roussillon rather than to see standing masonry.
