To make a day of it

Château de Fontenay stands in Saint-Marcouf (Manche), in the Normandie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The ruins of the château de Fontenay stand in Saint-Marcouf, in the Manche department, on the site of a residence built in the eighteenth century and destroyed during the fighting of 1944. Once nicknamed the Versailles of the Cotentin for its formal gardens and grand courtyard, the building was never rebuilt after the Second World War. A visit today means walking among remnants of a property that passed through several noble Norman families from the sixteenth to the twentieth century.
