To make a day of it

Château de Caramagne stands in Chambéry (Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Standing on the Boisse hill above Chambéry, this 16th century château was built by the Piedmontese jurist Bernadino Becchi before passing through several Savoyard families. Its main features are the marble-columned loggia with trompe l'oeil paintings and the stuccoed grand salon where Alphonse de Lamartine signed his marriage contract in 1820. The grounds keep an Italianate character, with an avenue of plane trees and outbuildings arranged in a semicircle around the entrance.
