Château de Calberte stands in Saint-Germain-de-Calberte (Lozère), in the Occitanie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
In the Cévennes mountains of Lozère, Calberte castle sits on a rocky spur above the Gardon river, reached only on foot from the present village of Saint-Germain-de-Calberte. Built mainly in the 12th century around a square keep eleven metres high, it survived the Wars of Religion and the Camisard uprising before falling into ruin. One family spent nearly forty years rebuilding it stone by stone, drawing on the surviving remains and on archaeological excavations, so that the original and restored sections are now hard to tell apart. Around the keep and the medieval hall stand a chapel, outbuildings and the remains of a village abandoned as early as the 14th century.
