# Vieux château d'Abreschviller

No visits are on record for this building.

The old castle of Abreschviller, also known as Ischeid castle, survives today only as ruins hidden in the Streitwald forest in Moselle, France. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, it is thought to have belonged to a steward of the Saint-Quirin priory and later to the counts of Dabo. Much of its history remains uncertain, and a local legend even claims Pope Leo IX was born there, though this has never been confirmed. Visitors come mainly for the forest walk and the discovery of a quiet medieval site next to an old sandstone quarry.
