Built directly against the cliff overlooking the Vézère river, the Reignac stronghold stands on a site inhabited since prehistoric times before becoming a fortified home during the Hundred Years' War. Visitors walk through a rare type of cliff castle, where the rock itself forms part of the roof, the ramparts and several interior rooms. Gun loops, a projecting timber gallery and machicolations, along with a fortified terrace, reveal the successive building phases from the 14th to the 16th century.
