In Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu, in Savoie, the Gimilieu fortified house stands on a hillock overlooking the area around Prélian, along former salt routes. Built in the 13th century, it belonged in turn to the Gimilieu family and then the Rossillon family, before falling into a long decline, becoming little more than a modest farm by the 18th century. Visitors can see a quadrangular courtyard, a square tower, a main dwelling reached by a stair turret, and remnants of Romanesque openings.
