In Monthoiron, in the Vienne department, a park holds the remains of a château destroyed by fire in 1857. Two towers survived: a square 15th-century tower, whose upper floor contains a vaulted room decorated with 16th- and 17th-century wall paintings, and an isolated round tower built in the early 16th century by Jacques II Turpin de Crissé. This round tower, with its unusual star-shaped base, has been the subject of a hypothesis linking it to Leonardo da Vinci, though this remains unproven. The site, listed as a historic monument, is now explored on foot through the park.
