Schloss Wilhelmshöhe overlooks the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel, Hesse. Built at the end of the 18th century for Landgrave Wilhelm IX, this Neoclassical palace served as a summer residence for the landgraves and electors of Hesse-Kassel, and later housed Napoleon III during his exile following his defeat at Sedan. It now contains a museum combining an antiquities collection with an old masters gallery, including a notable group of Rembrandt paintings. The central wing, destroyed during the Second World War, was rebuilt without its original dome.
