# Schloss vor Husum

Husum, Kreis Nordfriesland, Schleswig-Holstein

Schloss vor Husum stands in Husum (Kreis Nordfriesland), in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 16th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Schloss vor Husum stands on the grounds of a former Franciscan friary dissolved during the Reformation, where Duke Adolf of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf had a residence built between 1577 and 1582. It is the oldest surviving Renaissance building on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein, having served as a secondary ducal residence, later as a widow's seat for several duchesses, and after 1721 as a Danish administrative seat. Remodelled in a Baroque spirit around the mid-18th century, it now houses a museum and cultural centre open to visitors, set within a park known for its spring crocus bloom.
