# Schloss Sigmaringen

Sigmaringen, Landkreis Sigmaringen, Baden-Württemberg

Schloss Sigmaringen stands in Sigmaringen (Landkreis Sigmaringen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Recorded dating: 17th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Rising on a limestone spur above the Danube, Schloss Sigmaringen served as the residence and seat of government of the Princes of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Largely rebuilt after a late 19th-century fire, the present building keeps only the towers of the earlier medieval stronghold, whose origins on this rock go back to the 11th century. During the closing months of the Second World War the castle briefly housed the exiled Vichy French government. The Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen family still owns the estate, though they no longer live there.
