Schloss Molsdorf, near Erfurt in Thuringia, owes its present form to Count Gustav Adolf von Gotter, who had an earlier manor rebuilt into a late Baroque residence between 1734 and 1748. The visit leads through a sequence of state rooms, including a great hall hung with thirty three portraits of courtly patrons, a lady's cabinet and a marble hall, created with the help of court artists such as Antoine Pesne and Jean Baptiste Pedrozzi. The house also preserves an early 20th century marble bathroom fitted out for its later owner Maria von Gneisenau, an unusually well kept feature for a country house of this kind. The grounds, once a formal Baroque garden, were later reshaped into an English landscape park.
