Schloss Liebenstein sits on a narrow ridge south of Neckarwestheim in Baden-Württemberg, built upon the remains of a medieval stronghold of the lords of Liebenstein. Its Romanesque keep, dated by dendrochronology to around 1230, stands alongside a residential wing reshaped between 1525 and 1600 in a Renaissance style, complete with terraces, a stair tower and oriel windows. A chapel added at the close of the sixteenth century by the Heilbronn master builder Jacob Müller rounds out the ensemble. Passed to the Duchy of Württemberg in 1678 and later to the municipality of Neckarwestheim in 1982, the site now houses a hotel and restaurant.
