Schloss Hugenpoet is a moated castle in Essen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, whose origins trace back to a royal estate first recorded in the Carolingian period. The building seen today largely dates from a mid seventeenth century reconstruction carried out by the von Nesselrode family after the devastation of the Thirty Years' War. Bought in 1831 by the von Fürstenberg family, it was later remodelled in a neo-Renaissance style and served as their residence. Its exterior and grounds can now be seen as part of a hotel operating within the historic walls.
