# Schloss Eschenau

Obersulm, Landkreis Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg

Schloss Eschenau stands in Obersulm (Landkreis Heilbronn), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Eschenau stands at the center of the village of Obersulm, on a hill that had already carried a medieval stronghold destroyed in 1504. The present building goes back to an early 16th century Renaissance reconstruction commissioned by the von Gemmingen family, later remodeled in 1745 in a rococo style by the Italian architect Leopoldo Retti, under the supervision of master builder Georg Philipp Wenger. Inside, rich rococo stuccowork survives, and the surrounding park still holds an orangery and a tea house. The site also carries a darker chapter of history, having served as a forced retirement home for Jews from Stuttgart before their deportation, between late 1941 and 1942.
