Ehrenburg Palace stands at the edge of Coburg's old town, on the site of a Franciscan friary dissolved during the Reformation. It served as the town residence of the dukes of Saxe-Coburg for nearly four centuries, passing through Renaissance, Baroque and, after a fire, a Gothic Revival remodelling designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the early 19th century. Around twenty-five furnished and decorated rooms can be seen today on guided tours, while part of the building now houses Coburg's regional library.
