Charlottenhof Palace stands at the southern edge of Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, Brandenburg. Built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel between 1826 and 1829 for Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm, later king of Prussia, it takes its sober neoclassical form from ancient Roman villas. Ten rooms retain much of their original furnishings, including the striking tent-shaped bedroom where the explorer Alexander von Humboldt once stayed. The palace sits within a landscape park laid out by Peter Joseph Lenné and linked to the grounds of Sanssouci.
