Its early fourteenth century Gothic keep overlooks a complex reshaped across centuries, combining a Baroque wing with a Rococo section housing the well known Schönen Zimmer, their ceilings adorned with elaborate stucco. Highlights include the Kaisersaal, decorated by Giovanni Battista Carlone with allegories of the four continents, and the oval garden pavilion painted by the Asam brothers. Now home to a Bavarian music academy, the building still reflects the successive patrons who shaped it, from the Königsfeld family to the princes of Thurn und Taxis.
