The Munich Residenz stands on the site of a fortress founded in the late 14th century, which grew over four centuries into the seat of the dukes, prince-electors and later kings of Bavaria from the House of Wittelsbach. Architects Friedrich Sustris, Joseph Effner, François de Cuvilliés and Leo von Klenze layered Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical elements to create Germany's largest city palace. Visitors can explore more than 150 rooms across several wings, along with the Cuvilliés Theatre and the Court Church of All Saints, the whole complex having been rebuilt after its destruction in the Second World War.
