The Palais Weimar stands at the eastern end of Heidelberg's Hauptstraße, its main block framed by a courtyard and two low side wings. Built in the early eighteenth century as the town residence of a military commander, the baroque building went through several uses before becoming home to Heidelberg's ethnological museum. On the Neckar side, a sandstone terrace overlooks a garden laid out in echo of the nearby Hortus Palatinus terraces.
