Serving in turn as the postal administration's headquarters, the residence of Prince Primate Karl Theodor von Dalberg, and the meeting place of the German Confederation's parliament, the building endured several transformations before being destroyed following the 1943 and 1944 bombings. What stands today is a reconstruction completed between 2004 and 2009 as part of the Palaisquartier development, now home to shops and offices.
