The Palais für aktuelle Kunst occupies a building constructed between 1630 and 1631 in the late Dutch Renaissance style, later reworked in a Baroque manner around 1697, in the historic centre of Glückstadt. The house once served as the seat of the regional government chancellery and later as a residence for wealthy merchants, before becoming, from 2000 onward, a contemporary art venue run by a local association. Visitors can see rooms that still retain fragments of old wall paintings, ceiling stucco and historic stoves, in a space that hosts both regional artists and figures of national and international renown.
