The Orangery Palace stands at the northern edge of Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, on the Bornstedt ridge. Frederick William IV had it built between 1851 and 1864 in a style drawn from the Italian Renaissance, following his own sketches later developed by architects Friedrich August Stüler and Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse. The building combines a picture hall displaying copies of Raphael's works with long halls originally built to shelter exotic potted plants over winter. Former guest apartments and servants' quarters are also part of the complex, some of them now open to the public for museum purposes.
