The Marmorpalais stands on the shore of the Havel, within Potsdam's New Garden in Brandenburg. Frederick William II had it built between 1787 and 1793 as a summer residence, entrusting the design to architect Carl von Gontard, making it the only Prussian royal palace built in the early Neoclassical style. The interior, on which Carl Gotthard Langhans also worked, retains a vestibule entirely faced in polychrome marble, a grotto-like hall by the water, and a concert hall, along with marble fireplaces, antique sculptures and fine wood inlays. The south wing now houses an exhibition on the king and his circle.
