# Marburger Schloss

Marburg, Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf, Hessen

Marburger Schloss stands in Marburg (Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf), in Hesse, Germany. Recorded dating: 12th century. No visits are on record for this building.

Standing above Marburg on the rocky spur of the Schlossberg, at 287 metres, this castle served as the first residence of the Landgraves of Hesse and still shows the horseshoe-shaped layout of a medieval fortress opening onto a narrow inner courtyard. Visitors can make out the Landgraves' wing with its chapel, the women's wing known as the Kemenate, and the hall building to the north, whose great princely hall ranks among the largest and finest secular Gothic halls in central Europe. It was here, in 1529, that the Marburg Colloquy took place, a famous theological debate between Luther and Zwingli.
