# Leineschloss

Mitte, Region Hannover, Niedersachsen

Leineschloss stands in Mitte (Region Hannover), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 18th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Leineschloss stands on the banks of the Leine, on the site of a Franciscan friary founded in 1291 and turned into a Welf residence from 1636 onward. Architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves gave the building its classical appearance between 1816 and 1842, including the grand six-column Corinthian portico still seen today on Leinstraße. Destroyed by Allied bombing during the Second World War, the palace was rebuilt between 1957 and 1962 and now houses the Lower Saxony state parliament. What visitors encounter is essentially a working institutional building with a long dynastic history.
