The Königshof in Glückstadt recalls the first residence of the Danish king Christian IV in the port town he had just founded. Only the so called Wiebke Kruse tower survives from the original palace, crowned with a weathervane shaped like a horseman and the Danish orb, and it still overlooks the harbour. The present building, raised on the old foundations and cellars by 1867 in historicist style, replaced the structure lost to a 19th century fire.
