The Herzog-Max-Palais was a neoclassical town palace built between 1828 and 1831 in Munich's Ludwigstraße for Duke Maximilian Joseph in Bavaria, brother-in-law of King Ludwig I. Designed by architect Leo von Klenze, it featured mythological decorations by artists such as Wilhelm von Kaulbach and Ludwig von Schwanthaler, along with a grand two-story ballroom. Princess Elisabeth in Bavaria, later Empress of Austria known as Sisi, was born here in 1837. The palace was demolished in 1937 as part of Nazi-era urban redevelopment, and the site is now occupied by the Bundesbank's Bavarian headquarters.
