# Festung Koblenz

Koblenz, Koblenz, Rheinland-Pfalz

Festung Koblenz stands in Koblenz (Koblenz), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Koblenz Fortress refers to the network of Prussian defensive works that once encircled the city of Koblenz and the Ehrenbreitstein site, one of the largest fortification systems in 19th-century Europe. Built from 1815 under orders from King Frederick William III, it broke with the older bastioned layout in favor of a polygonal system supported by outlying forts on the surrounding heights. Today only parts of it remain substantially intact, most notably the Ehrenbreitstein fortress and Fort Großfürst Konstantin, while much of the rest was dismantled over time. A visit here means tracing scattered remnants across the city rather than touring one single structure.
