# Festung Hohentwiel

Singen (Hohentwiel), Landkreis Konstanz, Baden-Württemberg

Festung Hohentwiel stands in Singen (Hohentwiel) (Landkreis Konstanz), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Festung Hohentwiel sits atop an extinct volcano rising 260 meters above the town of Singen, in the Hegau region near Lake Constance. Covering nine hectares, it is the largest castle ruin in Germany open to visitors. Once an early medieval ducal seat and later a Württemberg state fortress that withstood five sieges during the Thirty Years' War, it was demolished in 1801 during the War of the Second Coalition. Visitors today walk through extensive fortified ruins with wide views over the Hegau's volcanic hills.
