# Felsenburg Neurathen

Lohmen, Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge, Sachsen

Felsenburg Neurathen stands in Lohmen (Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge), in Saxony, Germany. Recorded dating: 11th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Neurathen Castle is the ruin of a medieval rock castle overlooking the Elbe near Rathen in Saxony, within the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Its origins are traditionally traced to the 11th century, though the site is first clearly documented as a fortress in 1289. Once forming a twin castle with Altrathen, it is notable for chambers and passages cut straight into the rock, along with beam supports and a cistern, the only surviving traces of what was largely a timber structure. Excavations carried out between 1982 and 1984 allowed part of the site to be reconstructed as an open-air museum.
