Burg Windeck stands as a ruin on the Schlossberg above the village of Altwindeck. First recorded in 1174 as castrum novum, it passed through the hands of the Landgraves of Thuringia, the Dukes of Westphalia, the Counts of Berg and the lords of Nesselrode, each leaving traces on the structure. What remains today are mostly wall fragments and fortified remnants, set among woodland overlooking the Sieg valley.
