# Burg Sayn

Bendorf, Landkreis Mayen-Koblenz, Rheinland-Pfalz

Burg Sayn stands in Bendorf (Landkreis Mayen-Koblenz), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The ruins of Sayn Castle stand on a narrow ridge of the Kehrberg, a spur of the Westerwald, in the Sayn district of Bendorf, between Koblenz and Neuwied. First recorded in 1139 as the ancestral seat of the counts of Sayn and later of Sayn-Wittgenstein, the site occupies a rocky promontory above the valley where the Brexbach and Saynbach streams meet. Below lies the village of Sayn with its Schloss Sayn, a baroque building from the eighteenth century that was reworked in neo-Gothic style in the nineteenth. Two former vassal residences, the Mittleres Burghaus and the Burg Stein, still mark the path between the ruin and the village.
