# Burg Münstereifel

Bad Münstereifel, Kreis Euskirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen

Burg Münstereifel stands in Bad Münstereifel (Kreis Euskirchen), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Perched above the spa town of Bad Münstereifel, overlooking the Erft valley, the ruined Burg Münstereifel was once a territorial stronghold of the Dukes of Jülich. Largely built in the 13th century under Walram von Bergheim and completed in the following century by Gottfried von Bergheim, it retains a quadrangular, castle-like layout with a massive shield wall and a single gatehouse flanked by two towers. The surviving east tower of that gatehouse, restored in the 1960s, still shows a spiral staircase and a latrine, evidence that it once served as living quarters.
