Klopp Castle rises above the town of Bingen am Rhein on a hill that once controlled river traffic on the Rhine. What visitors see today is not the medieval fortress but a 19th-century rebuilding, combining a neo-Gothic building that now houses the town's administration with a keep converted into a viewing tower. Some medieval remains survive nonetheless: the base of the keep, the moat and part of the southern curtain wall. The site lies within the protected Upper Middle Rhine Valley landscape, between the Mouse Tower and Ehrenfels Castle on the opposite bank.
