Berwartstein Castle rises on a rocky outcrop at Erlenbach bei Dahn, in the Landkreis Südwestpfalz, in Rhineland-Palatinate. Founded in the 12th century, this fortress carved partly into the rock owes much of its fame to the robber knight Hans Trapp, who made it his stronghold. It is one of the few rock castles of the Wasgau region that has been restored and remains open to visitors today.
