The Brockdorff-Palais stands in Glückstadt beside a canal, a long thirteen-bay building whose red and yellow brick walls, still visible on the courtyard side, date from the early seventeenth century. Built for a fortress commander who successfully defended the town against Wallenstein's troops, it later passed through several noble families before taking the name of the Brockdorffs, who owned it for three generations. Visitors today find the Detlefsen-Museum inside, devoted to the history of the town and its surroundings.
