The Bolongaropalast stands in Höchst-Ost, a district of Frankfurt am Main, in Hesse. This large baroque palace was built between 1772 and 1780 for two brothers, Italian-born tobacco merchants named Bolongaro, who were never granted citizenship of Frankfurt and settled in Höchst instead. Inside, when accessible, visitors find mirrored halls, painted ceilings and silk-covered walls, along with a richly decorated chapel and ceremonial hall. Napoleon spent his last night on German soil here in November 1813, and the Prussian field marshal Blücher later made it his headquarters.
