The Turmhügel of Simonshofen, part of the town of Lauf an der Pegnitz in the Nürnberger Land district of Bavaria, is what remains of a medieval motte. Identified only in 1978 in a field known as Gemeindebühl, the site consists of an artificial mound roughly two metres high, surrounded by the faint traces of a circular ditch. No structure survives above ground, and the identity of those who built it remains unrecorded. Visitors come for the quiet trace of a medieval fortified seat rather than for a visible monument.
