# Belvedere auf dem Pfingstberg

Nördliche Vorstädte, Potsdam, Brandenburg

Belvedere auf dem Pfingstberg stands in Nördliche Vorstädte (Potsdam), in Brandenburg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 19th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

On Potsdam's highest hill, 76 metres above the Havel, stands a twin-towered building modelled on Renaissance Italian villas, built for King Frederick William IV purely as a viewpoint. Left unfinished when work stopped in 1852, it was only closed off later by the architect Stüler under King William I. Inside the towers are two ornate rooms, one in Moorish style, the other Roman, linked by an arcaded gallery that frames a central courtyard with a reflecting pool. Visitors climb outdoor and indoor stairs, finishing with a narrow iron spiral staircase, to reach terraces overlooking the town and gardens below.
