The Château Vieux of Mont-de-Marsan no longer stands, but its location at the tip of the rocky spur formed by the confluence of the Douze and Midou rivers remains identifiable beneath the present-day municipal theatre and part of Place Charles-de-Gaulle. Likely built in the 12th century by the viscounts of Marsan, it was the town's first fortified castle, later named Château Vieux to distinguish it from the Château de Nolibos, built afterward. There is no monument to visit here, only a historical site whose story sheds light on the founding of Mont-de-Marsan itself.
