# Château Saint-Clair

Château Saint-Clair stands in Derval (Loire-Atlantique), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 14th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set in woodland north of Derval, the Saint-Clair tower is what remains of a 14th-century stronghold, now in ruins. Besieged in 1373 by Bertrand du Guesclin while held by the English knight Robert Knolles, the castle later belonged to the Derval family before being destroyed at the end of the 16th century during the Wars of the League. Visitors find a partly collapsed keep some 24 metres high, surrounded by moats still partly filled with water and several defensive earthworks.
