> Peyrusse-le-Roc est connu dès l'époque romaine pour la richesse de ses mines d'argent, de plomb et d'antimoine. La forteresse subit un premier siège en 761, est prise par les Anglais en 1163, puis occupée par Simon de Montfort. La ville perd son importance à partir de la fin du 16e siècle. En 1668, le château royal est déjà en ruines : il ne reste que deux tours ; la tour nord servait de tour de guet (le plus bel exemple en Rouergue).
