Château-Guillaume stands in the Allemette valley, within the commune of Lignac in the Indre department. The site combines a 12th-century keep with four large cylindrical towers added in the 14th century, the whole crowned with machicolations. Dismantled under Richelieu and later restored at the end of the 19th century by a follower of Viollet-le-Duc, it retains the look of a reworked medieval stronghold. Local tradition credits its construction to the troubadour duke William IX of Aquitaine.
