Built by the counts of Toulouse and later held by the bishops of Carpentras, it kept its military role until the early 17th century before being destroyed by a lightning-sparked fire in 1783. Restored by the local council, the ruined structure keeps its romantic character while now housing community rooms and an open esplanade.
