At the top of the hilltop village of Callian, in the Var department, this medieval hilltop castle has overlooked the surrounding streets for centuries. Altered between the 14th and 17th centuries, its south-east facade still bears the Provençal Renaissance touches added by Louis Antoine de Grasse in the early 16th century. Owned by a succession of noble families, burned during the Revolution and left in ruins for nearly two hundred years, it was restored between 1966 and 1976. It remains private property today, best seen from outside while wandering through the historic village.
