In Agos-Vidalos, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, a fortified tower stands on a rocky outcrop above the Gave de Pau, near the road linking Lourdes and Argelès-Gazost. Built at the end of the 12th century on the orders of the Count of Bigorre to watch over the Lavedan valley, it collapsed in 1981 and was fully rebuilt during the 1990s. Visitors can see a defensive structure typical of the Middle Ages, with three levels pierced only by narrow arrow slits and a rooftop platform reached via a modern metal staircase.
